🌧 ️ What is cloud seeding?
Cloud seeding, also called stimulation of rains, is a technique that seeks to improve the efficiency of precipitation of clouds formed. Not “created” rains of nothing, but makes use of the natural potential of the cloud to download more water in strategic locations.
Goal of the seeding of clouds
The main purpose is to increase the performance of the natural rain, resulting in:
- Increased recharge of rivers, dams and aquifers.
- Support to agriculture and livestock in arid or semi-arid.
- The reduction of the impact of prolonged drought.
.
📜 Brief history
-
1940s: the method was proposed by the scientist Vincent Schaefer in the united States, to discover that certain compounds could induce the formation of ice crystals in clouds.
-
Flares glaciogénicas: it is traditionally used silver iodide, which mimics the structure of the ice and promotes the freezing of drops superenfriadas.
-
Flares not glaciogénicas: have used other substances (e.g. salts are hygroscopic) that promote the coalescence of droplets in clouds, warm.
With time, the seeding was adopted in different countries as part of strategies of water management.
How does it work?
☁️
Identify clouds with the potential of precipitation by means of satellites, radar or weather models.
✈️
Aircraft or drones release agents nucleantes in specific areas of the cloud.
💧
These act as additional cores that help the droplet together, to grow and to become sufficiently heavy to fall.
Scope and limitations
-
Scope: you can increase the efficiency of precipitation of between 5 and 20 %, depending on the region and weather conditions. Their benefits are reflected in dams, groundwater recharge and water availability for the field.
-
Limitations: it can not be applied on any cloud, or in severe storms or hurricanes. Also replace the water management or resolves by itself structural problems of drought.
The innovation of RainMaker®
RainMaker® has led the technology beyond the traditional methods:
-
Instead of flares of silver iodide, used agents nucleantes patented combining a surfactant organometálico cores glaciogénicos.
-
Your spray in cold high-pressure it creates millions of micro droplets are dispersed more evenly in the cloud, without the need for sublimation preview.
-
This increases the coverage of the cells cloud and improves the efficiency of the process, making interventions more safe, clean, and effective.
In summary: cloud seeding is a support tool against the drought that takes advantage of the physical processes of nature. RainMaker® represents the evolution of this technique, to innovate in the agents nucleantes and in the form of dispersion, resulting a greater impact on the effectiveness of the rains.
